Dear New Students and Prospective Students,

The Harvard Law School Republicans is a very active, vibrant group on campus. HLS Republicans is a multi-faceted organization, hosting activities ranging from bringing in prominent speakers to hosting social events. Already this year, our events have included putting together cards and care packages for American soldiers overseas, a Welcome Back BBQ, and a Happy Hour with candidate for U.S. Congress Tom Cotton and political commentator William Kristol.  Last year, our social events included a Spring Hog Roast; a joint Happy Hour with the Harvard Kennedy School Republicans and the Harvard Business School Republicans; a tour of the Samuel Adams Brewery; and an Election Party to watch the 2010 results roll in.

We also hosted a variety of prominent speakers last year, including conservative political analyst William Kristol; newly elected Massachusetts State Representative Dan Winslow; and President of the University of Utah Michael Young. A group of students from HLS Republicans also had the opportunity to eat breakfast with Jeb Bush, the former Governor of Florida. HLS Republicans alerts students to opportunities to volunteer with political campaigns. Last year, groups of students volunteered for the Senate campaigns of Scott Brown (MA) and Kelly Ayotte (NH), as well as Charlie Baker’s Massachusetts gubernatorial campaign.

By far the biggest event HLS Republicans sponsors is an annual trip to Washington, D.C. One highlight of last year’s trip was a meeting with Justice Scalia and tour of the Supreme Court. We also got the chance to meet and discuss current events with political commentator Charles Krauthammer. Our group met with House and Senate staffers, had lunch with The Weekly Standard publisher Terry Eastland, and attended an HLS alumni mixer at the Cosmos Club in Dupont Circle.

HLS Republicans is a diverse group open to all Harvard Law students. If you are interested in meeting other moderate and conservative students, like to discuss issues currently facing our country, and want to have a fun time in the process, consider coming to an HLS Republicans event.
